DC United Stadium update

By Paul Boyer | October 16, 2007 at 12:08 am

Article last Friday in the WashPost about DC United’s owner saying he’s frustrated with DC mayor Fenty and will begin looking for a site in the suburbs. Let me go on record right now as saying if they build it in Loudoun County, I will be a lifetime holder of multiple season tickets. Why not use that site that the Nationals passed up near Dulles? Metro should be there (some day) and the Dulles Airport road could be re-purposed for stadium traffic use. With Herndon near by, people could walk to the games.

Wow, an MLS soccer stadium in Loudoun County. Now that would be exciting. (And I’d bet Moreno would like it too!)

Time to shine

By Paul Boyer | October 15, 2007 at 11:08 pm

OK Loudoun, next week’s game will be a good test of what you’ve learned so far this season. You’ll be playing SYA BOCA Jrs, the Southwest Youth Association from Centreville. They have a 4-0-1 record against some of the same teams you’ve played, so bring your “A” game next week to our home field at Lucketts.

But most importantly… HAVE FUN! (I know *I* am).

World Cup Fever? Women’s of Course.

By Paul Boyer | September 20, 2007 at 5:40 pm

The USA Women’s National Team has moved into the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup soccer tournament playing in China. Their next match is against England this Saturday the 22nd and will be shown at 8am on ESPN2 in glorious HD. If they win (a BIG IF), they will play the winner of Brazil and Australia in the semi-finals on Thursday the 27th, again at 8am on ESPN2. The final game is on Sunday the 30th.

In the meantime, if you haven’t followed Women’s soccer from their win in the inaugural 1991 match thru their marvelous win in 1999, you can borrow a DVD we own called The World at Their Feet, an hour-long documentary with interviews and footage from the events. Tim gives it an “It was OK, a lot of people talking though” rating.

If you would like to borrow it from us, send me an email or make a comment below.

By Paul Boyer | September 10, 2007 at 2:12 am

Whew! I think I about lost my voice in that game. I’ve gotta unwrap one of those tootsie roll pops at the start next time. Or bring duct tape. Anyway, we came out on top on a wild, goal-scoring game.
