World Cup Fever? Women’s of Course.
By Paul Boyer | September 20, 2007 at 5:40 pm
The USA Women’s National Team has moved into the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup soccer tournament playing in China. Their next match is against England this Saturday the 22nd and will be shown at 8am on ESPN2 in glorious HD. If they win (a BIG IF), they will play the winner of Brazil and Australia in the semi-finals on Thursday the 27th, again at 8am on ESPN2. The final game is on Sunday the 30th.
In the meantime, if you haven’t followed Women’s soccer from their win in the inaugural 1991 match thru their marvelous win in 1999, you can borrow a DVD we own called The World at Their Feet, an hour-long documentary with interviews and footage from the events. Tim gives it an “It was OK, a lot of people talking though” rating.
If you would like to borrow it from us, send me an email or make a comment below.

The ball finds its warm, comfortable home.
On the way to the goal.
It’s in the net!
Battling for control.
Three on one and sometimes even four or even five on one.
Out front.
Keeping a clean sheet.
You make the call.

NCSL Game 2
By Paul Boyer | September 10, 2007 at 2:12 am
Whew! I think I about lost my voice in that game. I’ve gotta unwrap one of those tootsie roll pops at the start next time. Or bring duct tape. Anyway, we came out on top on a wild, goal-scoring game.

Interesting Soccer Matches Coming Up
By Paul Boyer | September 6, 2007 at 1:05 am
US Men’s National Team is playing the Brazilian National Team this Sunday, 9 Sept, at 4pm. It is billed as the “Clash of the Champions.” The game will be on ESPN2. Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson are headlining the USA team. Ronaldinho and Kaka are stars for Brazil. Definitely a game not to miss.
Then we have the Women’s World Cup starting on Tuesday. Early Tuesday because they are playing in China. Set your DVR to record US Women vs. North Korea at 5am also on ESPN2. The USA women are favored but anything can happen in soccer (as we learned last weekend :-).
I’ve placed these and some other interesting soccer matches on a separate Google Calendar if you are interested in keeping track.
