Nice start to the NCSL season
By Paul Boyer | September 13, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Except for the fact that last weekend was a complete rainout (even on a sunny, dry Sunday), Loudoun got off to a great start in the NCSL season today. They found the back of the net 6 times in the early morning heat to beat FRED 6-2. An early goal by Gio with an assist by Nate in the 5th minute got the game off to a good start. Loudoun looked like they might begin sealing it up just before the half when Rudra scored in the 26th minute. After switching sides, Loudoun came out looking disoriented getting scored upon in the 38th and 47th minutes with an intervening goal by Cameron in the 43rd minute. That second goal by their opponent lit a fire in the belly of the brave ones and they went on to unanswered scores by Dawson (assist Tim), Michael, and Tim (assist Gio).
In case you haven’t noticed, there is a live spreadsheet on the web with goals, assists, and points (goals 2 points, assists 1 point). Can’t guarantee it is accurate, but it is fun. Permanent link over at the right.
Way to go Loudoun, great start to the NCSL season.

Play To Win Approved
By Paul Boyer | September 3, 2008 at 8:04 am
Hopefully we will be playing in a tournament a lot closer to home some day SOON. That is, in Ashburn at the Play To Win athletic fields. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted to support the Play to Win application yesterday. Now all we need are about 144 more fields and we’ll be in good shape. (my estimate, hahaha)

CHAMPIONS!
By Paul Boyer | September 1, 2008 at 5:37 pm
What a great victory today. Loudoun 98B Black are the champions of their U10 OBGC Tournament division. Their victory came over MSC Mutiny Black who defeated them yesterday 4-2. Loudoun, missing players Cameron and Rudra, was nonetheless hungry for the victory this morning and played a beautiful game. MSC scored first at the 12 minute mark but Loudoun recovered with a goal by Gio off an assist by Nate in the 19th minute to tie the game 1-1. Several missed opportunities by Loudoun either sprayed above or beside the MSC goal or into their keeper’s hands. The Loudoun defense, with Ben as the team’s first ever full-game keeper, held MSC to no additional goals. The ref’s whistle blew after 50 minutes with the score 1-1 and Loudoun was headed into their first ever penalty kick tie breaker. Tim was chosen as keeper during the PK rounds and our kickers were chosen from those who were playing at the time of the final whistle. Watch the video for the full excitement as Loudoun wins their first championship medal.
Congratulations Loudoun 98B Black on a fantastic tournament. Keep up the energy all season long!
It was great to have Cameron back today even if only on the sidelines.
Get better Rudra!

Still Looking Good
By Paul Boyer | August 31, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Loudoun 98B Black looked good again in day two of the OBGC tournament. We expected the games to be tough and easy, in that order, and we were right. The tough match-up was against MSC MUTINY BLACK. But they didn’t look so tough after the very first minute when Gio scored and put us up 1-0… until the very next minute when they answered, knotting things at 1-1 all through the first half. After switching ends, MSC scored twice quickly, then another Loudoun goal from Gio before they scored again in the 41st minute. There things remained with Loudoun losing to MSC 2-4.
After an hour rest under a shade tree, Loudoun brought the heat to FREESTATE SOCCER ALLIANCE FORCE. If you blinked you missed goals by Gio, Gio, Dawson, Nathan, Nate, Tim, and Michael. Let’s get everybody on the boards! FSAF did score once, shutting out our shutout hopes though. In the end, we added 7 to the season’s GF column. 7-1.
In tomorrow morning’s tournament final we once again cross swords with MSC MUTINY who remain undefeated. Let’s push them over the edge of the ship this time guys!
And get better Cameron!

Nice Start to the Season!
By Paul Boyer | August 30, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Our Loudoun 98B Black took home two solid victories today at the OBGC tournament. You can visit the official results page but I’ll also mention it here.
The first game against POTOMAC COUGARS 98 was a draw at the half with each team scoring nil. We missed lots and lots of opportunities to score. Finally, in the 2nd half we got on target and got a goal each from Gio, Nate, Tim, and Nathan. We led 3-0 at one point before winning 4-2 in the end.
In the second game against MPS CELTIC GOLD we came out stronger scoring 5 goals from Gio, Nate, Tim, Nathan, and Rudra in the first half before they scored their first. We weakened considerably in the 2nd half, or rested on our lead, before Gio scored and they answered leaving the result 6-2 in favor of the good guys.
Tomorrow’s games start at 10:00 ON FIELD #1 against MSC MUTINY BLACK (MD) and then at 12:00 against FREESTATE SOCCER ALLIANCE FORCE (MD). MSC defeated MPS 9-1 and they defeated FREESTATE 10-0 so it looks like we will need to come out blazing tomorrow morning. FREESTATE lost their other game against POTOMAC 6-1. So let’s put our best team out there tomorrow morning and get off to a good start. It looks like if we have a loss and a win tomorrow we could still make it into the final on Monday. But let’s not even put that option on the table, let’s take a WIN AND A WIN!
LOUDOUN looked their best yet these two games. Passing, defending, scoring, covering, ball handling… everything seems to be coming together. If I had to suggest something to improve I might pick strength and accuracy in kicking. Strength in clearing the ball away and accuracy in goal scoring. And for accuracy, we could have easily had twice as many goals in each of our games with all of the opportunities that resulted in hitting the side netting or going directly to the keeper.
One thing is for sure, I’m going to be wearing cooler clothing tomorrow.
We missed you Cameron! Get better QUICKLY and FULLY!
