An efficiently-sided Loudoun got the 2009 NCSL season off to a great start on a beautiful Sunday morning on a beautiful grass field by defeating VYS 6-2. Coach Evert made no substitutions the entire game. You see, he couldn’t, only 7 guys were there on this Spring Break Sunday. But that was all we needed because the scoring blizzard was on the way. It all started in the 10th minute with Michael taking a free kick lofted up to Gio who hammered it home for the first score. Two minutes later, Tim lasered a ball to the open space in front of Gio for their 2nd goal. Lightning struck again in the 29th minute with another Tim assist to Gio’s open space. Loudoun 3-0 at the half.

In the 36th minute after several of Michael’s corner kicks, Cameron lobbed it up in front of the goal to Gio who headered it in for goal 4. VYS scored in the 43rd then with Gio on the left wing near the corner, he beamed it to Ben’s lob kick high into the goal. Two minutes later, Gio with a runaway march for their 6th and final goal. VYS popped one in in the last minute and the score stood Loudoun 6, VYS 2.

Great game Loudoun. Get some rest

Today’s game proves what I’ve always believed: there is a universal conspiracy by the soccer referees to declare a team the “winner” just because they have scored the most goals. Loudoun was CLEARLY the better team on the field today. But just because they had ONE fewer goal than the other team, the referee declared the other team the “winner” and they got to move on to the final round.

It is time we as soccer parents take a stand against this clear injustice. It is time we claim what is rightfully ours. It is time Loudoun be recognized as the winner. It is time that those five or six “goals” that we should have made that went just inches outside their goal be counted.

OK I’m joking.

But look here folks, I talked to people who didn’t even have a kid on the team and they said what a great game Loudoun played today. Loudoun got 3 goals inside the net, Fredericksburg got 4 goals inside the net, so they were declared the winner. But if you’d only have been there, you’d see!

And who scored for Loudoun? Who else? Gio, Gio, and Gio… with fantastic assists from Nate, Dawson, and Dawson. Beautiful assists!

And how about that defense? Did you see Tim and Michael back there? NOBODY got past those guys.

And I can’t even begin to tell you how fantastic Cameron was in goal. Did you see that save off their free kick? Not to mention countless other great saves and booming boots of the ball past half field.

But mentioning just these few names is truly not fair. Everybody played their hearts out. Great game, great tournament, great season…. see you next year.

Had two games today. In the first game against Arlington, Loudoun came out scoring and took the first half 2 to 0, both goals by Gio. Then something weird happened in the second half and the other guys scored 5 goals against us. We lost a game we should have won.

In the second game against perennial rival MSC, Nate scored off a wonderful Gio assist in the 3rd minute but they tied in the 25th minute just after halftime and we were all like, oh no not another 2nd half like the other game’s second half. But no, it wasn’t like that at all. In fact, the good guys scored in the 41st minute from Nathan to win the game 2-1.

That puts us in 2nd place in our division and we get to play the semi-final round tomorrow morning at 9:55. Warm up those bones tonight guys and come out on fire tomorrow.

Moms got a good opportunity to test their laundry detergent.

Oh, and Loudoun lost in a thriller to CYA REAL. This time, our opponent scored in the first minute. Then Gio tied it in the 7th with an assist from Nathan. They answered in the 20th. Gio answered with an assist from the still clean Owen in the 29th to make it 2-2 just before halftime.

They scored in the 39th. Nathan tied it off a Nate assist in the 47th. We’re now 3-3 if you’re not keeping track. Then they scored in the 47th. Our last 15 minutes we played like bats flying from a cave but couldn’t get the ball into the net, leaving Loudoun with a loss and a 5-3-1 season result. Not bad guys. I think we saw a yellow card to a player for the first time this season. The ref must have been in a bad mood wallowing around in all that mud.

[Update from Shuba (and confirmed by Sue): Coach Evert said at the end of the game the ref withdrew the yellow card decision and admitted it was a mistake -- it was a bad call. Justice prevails!]

Great season Loudoun. Looking forward to a fun time in the Thanksgiving tournament.

From the first minute to the last, Loudoun led the match against BRYC today. Gio scored in the first minute off an assist by Owen. Then in the third minute Owen was there to poke it into the net to make it 2-0. BRYC scored in the 16th minute and then we got another goal by Gio in the 21st minute to make it 3-1 going into half time.

BRYC made it close in the 36th minute with another goal and Loudoun went on to hold the one goal lead until the final whistle finally blew.

Great game guys. Some certain goals went just over the crossbar which would have helped us parents rest a little easier on the sidelines. Last game of the season is tomorrow. Keep up the energy.

… where’d you go the second half? Loudoun had a great first half game against REST today with goals by Gio, Tim, and Remy off an Owen assist. Felt pretty good until REST scored in the 35th minute. Then we knew something was up. The clock moved way too slowly with them scoring again in the 47th minute and then Loudoun was called for a penalty in the box which allowed REST to score the tying goal in the 55th minute. Loudoun had some other near misses that should have been goals, but we will have to settle for a tie and one point.

Oh and by the way, what a great field. Don’t tell anyone.

Whoops, forgot a 43rd minute melee when I think someone bopped the ball to someone who bopped it to Nate who bopped it to Nathan who bopped it into their goal. End result was a 6-1 loss to the VYS on a crazy-to-get-to field behind some office building somewhere. [Thanks for the field, Capital One!]

Like Journey sings, “When you learn to lose, you know what it takes…” blah, blah, blah. Yes, I’ve seen the future of Loudoun 98B Black soccer and it looks like a stong, aggressive defense with surefooted offensive skills. Hopefully the future will arrive when we meet Reston in 2 weeks.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Possession is nine-tenths of the law?” If that is true, then Loudoun laid down the law against Ashburn this morning. The ball stayed on Ashburn’s defensive half for the majority of the game. But unfortunately on a couple of those rare occasions when it did squirt away, Ashburn was able to pop it into the goal plus once more on a handball-in-the-box penalty kick to “defeat” Loudoun by a score of three goals to none. Loudoun perhaps got overly offensive and strayed away from the defensive end a little too far on those occasions. Several goal attempts by Loudoun were either blocked or strayed just wide of the post. A good game to watch but on a field with long, dewy grass making for very slow movement.

The chronology went like this: Ashburn scored in the 8th minute. Then again on the penalty kick in the 37th minute and finally in the 58th minute as Loudoun threw everything on offense. This is one that could have easily gone the other way.

We’re very proud of the way our Loudoun B team played against Ashburn’s A team this morning. Way to go guys. As Journey sings, “When you learn to lose, you know what it takes to win.” But if you were there, you’d say Loudoun came away winners. Here come da’ judge!
