Bethesday Tourney Day 2: Referee Conspiracy?

By Paul Boyer | November 23, 2008

Today’s game proves what I’ve always believed: there is a universal conspiracy by the soccer referees to declare a team the “winner” just because they have scored the most goals. Loudoun was CLEARLY the better team on the field today. But just because they had ONE fewer goal than the other team, the referee declared the other team the “winner” and they got to move on to the final round.

It is time we as soccer parents take a stand against this clear injustice. It is time we claim what is rightfully ours. It is time Loudoun be recognized as the winner. It is time that those five or six “goals” that we should have made that went just inches outside their goal be counted.

OK I’m joking.

But look here folks, I talked to people who didn’t even have a kid on the team and they said what a great game Loudoun played today. Loudoun got 3 goals inside the net, Fredericksburg got 4 goals inside the net, so they were declared the winner. But if you’d only have been there, you’d see!

And who scored for Loudoun? Who else? Gio, Gio, and Gio… with fantastic assists from Nate, Dawson, and Dawson. Beautiful assists!

And how about that defense? Did you see Tim and Michael back there? NOBODY got past those guys.

And I can’t even begin to tell you how fantastic Cameron was in goal. Did you see that save off their free kick? Not to mention countless other great saves and booming boots of the ball past half field.

But mentioning just these few names is truly not fair. Everybody played their hearts out. Great game, great tournament, great season…. see you next year.
